benales opens the e.p. with radiate, a track where you can clearly hear his influences of the american school of 90s minimal techno. long time dj but new on the production side, this is benales first effort on vinyl. after his initial masterpiece on knotweed records (kw006) and a handful of releases on demented (hiss 1992) and krill, opuswerk is back on knotweed with displacement, a trippy, hard hitting, analogic techno attack: no concession on this one! gonzalo md has already delivered the goods on both knotweed (kw004 and kw011) and decision making theory (dmt 006), as well as a fantastic ep recently on extrasolar. here, with sharp oscillation, he keeps developing his unique style, producing a highly percussive, almost samba-like, piece of techno. label owner philippe petit closes the e.p. with indian summer, a track moving along a warm bassline, bearing some recognisable krautrock influences.

we finished 2015 with a six-track jumbo ep from borrowed identity and thought we d repeat the same trick for 2016, though this time with originals from okayama-based producer keita sano. eye begins with keep an eye out, pt.2, a propulsive song that sounds like a lost contender for the knight rider theme. own signal keeps things dark, but with a spartan bleakness. the side finishes with smoker, another manic cut that ll give you chills. the flip finds keita exploring brighter sounds without losing that industrial, jagged edge. trmk is essentially a beat track that ll ignite any dance floor and fix is a herky-jerky ditty that ll get you stomping around the club like a possessed reveler. the 12inches cherry on top is think twice, a funky ass-shaker that centers around a crackly sample of crowd noise, a chopped-up disco vocal, and bouncy bass. a fiery finale for this hedonistic party.

lena platonos is a pioneer of the greek electronic music scene of the 1980s. she produced and released her second solo album, gallop, in 1985 that de reissued in 2015.

crash course in science are a post punk band that formed in 1979 in philadelphia. the band members, dale feliciello, mallory yago and michael zodorozny, met while attending art school, where they began to experiment with crude electronics and off-beat lyrics. ccis avoided conventional instrumentation by using toy instruments and kitchen appliances to augment the distorted guitar, drums and synthesized beats.

immersed in the early days of the 90s midwest rave scene, bill converse began djing at a young age in lansing, michigan. luminaries such as claude young, traxx, and twonz were key early influences. since moving to texas in 1998, he has experimented with analog techniques in varied studio bunkers. early techno, noise, ambient, tape, and paranormal processing are all part of his uncanny sound palette.

dark matters, the eclectic imprint founded by amirali is proud to announce its third release, paul valentin inner harm. growing up in a small village in southern germany, valentin was influenced by his musical family. studying classical guitar himself, he combines acoustic, electronic and field recordings in his music creating cinematic compositions.

dark entries and honey soundsystem records have teamed up again to release another volume of gay porn soundtracks by san francisco-based musician and producer, patrick cowley. “muscle up” is a collection of cowley’s instrumental songs recorded between 1973 and 1980 found in the fox studio vaults. this compilation also includes bonus compositions found in the basement of megatone records owner john hedges and the attic of former bandmate maurice tani.

in 1985 severed heads were asked to release a retrospective, so they dragged out bits lying around. the compilation was titled “clifford darling please don’t live in the past”, spread out into a montage over four sides of vinyl. this compilation includes live recordings, raw demos, unreleased studio recordings and solo pieces from each member of the band during from the first five years. the results are a striking hybrid of the avant-garde industrial and pop.
